Korean Fan Raises Slipper To ‘Threaten’ Entertainment Company, Wins Internet Over
A tweet by a frustrated fan of Korean singer Jeong Sewoon, 26, has gone viral, and for good reason.
On July 17, the fan shared this picture of them brandishing a slipper in a threatening manner outside Korean entertainment company Starship Entertainment. In the tweet, they expressed their frustration at Starship, which manages Sewoon.
The fan shared that it’s been 15 months since Sewoon last released an album, and asked Starship to announce plans for a comeback album or promotions for the singer. Pretty standard stuff in the Kpop world.
Here’s what’s different though. Typically, fans organise their protests by tweeting a specific hashtag or a list of demands.
Some fans will take things a step further, and send protest trucks that will be parked outside the company’s building. These trucks typically come with a huge LED screen that feature a scrolling display of their demands.
But this Sewoon fan decided to keep things simple with their protest, simultaneously giving us a flashback to the days where a single raised slipper from your parents would strike fear in your hearts.
The original tweet has since accumulated 3.2mil views, and over 4,000 retweets, mostly from other fans chuckling over how relatable the raised slipper is.
“Ah this is so funny,” one netizen wrote, while another laughed: “This is supposed to be a serious [issue] but I burst out in laughter.”
“It’s really amazing how universal the threatening slipper is,” yet another netizen chuckled.
