Harry and Meghan asked US President Biden to fly them home on Air Force One after Queen Elizabeth’s funeral: reports
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle asked US President Biden for a ride home on Air Force One following Queen Elizabeth’s funeral last September, according to British tabloid reports.
The reported request was immediately shut down by the White House, with one source describing the idea as a “non-starter”.
Harry and Meghan live in California, but they were already in Britain for charity reasons when the queen died on Sept 8, 2022. They stuck around through her funeral on Sept 19.
President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were among the many foreign dignitaries in attendance for the ceremony. According to tabloid sources, Harry and Meghan were hoping for a ride home with them.
However, as pointed out by New York magazine, the timeline does not exactly line up. The Bidens left London on Air Force One at 2.30pm on the day of the funeral.
Harry and Meghan, meanwhile, would have been expected to attend a private committal service at 4pm, followed by a private burial for the queen.
Additionally, the two famous couples live on opposite sides of the country. A flight from London to Washington would’ve only carried Harry and Meghan a little more than halfway to their home in Southern California.
According to Harry’s book Spare, he and Meghan left Britain on Sept 20, the day after the funeral, taking a British Airways flight from London direct to Los Angeles.
Harry and Meghan did not comment on the tabloid reports. Harry has made his disdain for the tabloids clear, and he has filed multiple lawsuits against publishing companies in Britain. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
