Cops seize five supercars, open probe into dangerous driving claims

JOHOR BARU: Police have seized five luxury sports cars and opened an investigation paper to look into claims that the drivers had driven dangerously on the Senai Desaru Expressway (SDE).

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said following the incident last Saturday (July 29), all five male drivers, aged 45 years and above, went to the Kota Tinggi district police headquarters to have their statements recorded.

“Apart from that, we also seized the five supercars as the vehicles were found to be in violation of the law.

“We will complete the investigations as soon as possible for the necessary action to be taken,” he told a press conference when asked to comment on the matter at the Iskandar Puteri police headquarters here on Monday (July 31).

He added that the drivers of the supercars came from all over Malaysia.

“We welcome those who want to visit Johor but they should be disciplined and follow the law while they are here.

“As road users, safety must be the priority and do bear in mind that there are always people watching and ready to record any wrongdoings, which will then be shared on social media,” he added.

Last Saturday (July 29), Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said a police report was received at around 10am on the same day regarding a fleet of supercars seen overtaking other vehicles dangerously on the SDE.

The vehicles were reportedly heading towards Bandar Penawar from Senai in Kota Tinggi and could have resulted in an accident as the vehicles were speeding on the single-track road.

A 71-second video clip of the incident also made rounds on social media.

Following that, police identified and called up the five luxury car drivers to aid in investigations under the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
