Nine shots fired at car trying to evade cops in Kepong
KUALA LUMPUR: Police had to fire nine shots aimed at the tyres of a car with two suspects after they refused to stop for an inspection in Kepong here.
A 13-second video showing police firing at a car went viral on social media.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain (pic) said a high-speed chase took place from Pintasan Segambut through Taman Pusat Kepong until Laman Rimbunan, Jalan Kepong here at 7.45am on Monday (Aug 7).
“Three motorcycle patrol units came across the two suspects in the car and instructed them to stop for an inspection.
“However, the suspects tried to flee and a 10-minute chase ensued.
“On reaching traffic congestion on Jalan Kepong, the suspect reversed the car and hit one of the policemen and damaged his motorcycle. He sustained light injuries,” he told a press conference at KL police headquarters on Monday.
He said the other two policemen fired nine shots at the suspects’ car tyres, which caused the vehicle to swerve to the side of the road.
“Both suspects then fled on foot. The suspects also damaged several cars during the chase,” he said.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily said police are looking for O. Ganesan, 40.
“We believe this individual, who has a criminal record, can assist the investigation.
“We are in the process of identifying the suspects involved,” he said.
Police also found various items in the suspects’ car, Comm Mohd Shuhaily said.
“We are determining if the items were stolen or used in criminal activities,” he said.
