State polls: Noh Omar and family turn up to vote for daughter Nurul Syazwani
TANJONG KARANG: It was a shot in the arm for Perikatan Nasional’s Nurul Syazwani Noh when her family, including veteran politician Tan Sri Noh Omar, came out in full force together with her at the polling centre.
Also with her were her mother Puan Sri Dr Aishah Salleh, her husband Hisyam Hedzril Nor Hashim, their young son Qal Qadri, six, and her younger half-brother Muhammad Nur Isyraff, 18.
“They have been my pillar of strength and the force behind me throughout this struggle.
“I’m grateful for having them by my side,” she said when met after casting her vote with her family at the SK Sungai Burong polling centre here on Saturday (Aug 12).
The 35-year-old lawyer said she would spend the rest of the afternoon visiting all the 19 polling centres under the Permatang state seat.
“I have done my best to campaign in the last two weeks and I hope the people will make a wise choice.
“I would like to apologise to the voters if there were any shortcomings or wrongdoing by me and my team throughout the campaign period.”
She also called on Selangor voters to seize the day and come out to vote.
Nurul Syazwani left Umno soon after her father was sacked from the party earlier this year.
She joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and is now representing Perikatan Nasional in Permatang, a state seat under the Tanjong Karang parliamentary constituency, of which her father was its MP for six terms until 2022.
She is taking on Pakatan Harapan’s Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri from PKR in a straight fight.
When met, Noh said he was glad to see that Nurul Syazwani’s campaign had been smooth and the people’s response had been welcoming.
“Even the voting process at many places here has been good and peaceful so far.
“It shows the people are politically mature,” he said.
When asked, Noh said Perikatan was likely to win in Selangor, as his old ally Barisan Nasional has a new friend in DAP.
“It was the same party that has caused its downfall previously.
“With that, it is likely to see Pakatan Harapan returning as the opposition in Selangor again,” he said.
