Najib seeks nullification of RM2.28bil 1MDB High Court trial
KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak wants to nullify his RM2.28bil 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial at the High Court.
He is also seeking for the court to discharge and acquit him of all 25 charges in the trial.
His lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah informed presiding judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah of this on Monday (Aug 14).
Muhammad Shafee said he was instructed to make the application following last month’s disclosure of Justice Sequerah’s past connection with former 1MDB general counsel Jasmine Loo Ai Swan, who is currently being investigated.
On July 26, Justice Sequerah informed parties in the trial that he and Loo were once colleagues at a law firm.
Loo is said to be an associate of fugitive financier, Low Taek Jho, or better known as Jho Low.
The trial continues with former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz taking the stand for examination-in-chief.
