TVB Lost S$70Mil In First Half Of 2023; Denies That Eric Tsang Is Resigning As GM

The broadcaster asserted that all reports regarding the resignation of Eric Tsang, who recently underwent surgery, were unfounded.

A newly released financial report documenting the financial affairs of Hong Kong broadcaster TVB has revealed a loss of HK$406mil (S$70mil) in the first half of 2023.

Media reports soon followed, claiming that Hong Kong star Eric Tsang, 70, who stepped up as the general manager of TVB in 2021, will be resigning from his position as a result of the losses.

It was also reported that TVB’s Chairman, Thomas Hui, will be resigning as well, and that the broadcaster will be shifting its focus to the Chinese market in an attempt to reduce their losses.

TVB has been filming an increasing number of shows in China, including upcoming drama Enterprise Strong Men, which is now shooting in Shenzhen.

Eric Tsang’s still TVB’s GM.

Prior to this report, it was revealed that two prominent producers had been laid off.

The broadcaster is also allegedly looking to rehire former group general manager, Ho Ting Kwan, though the 78-year-old has stated that he is still “considering” their offer.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Eric will be taking a step back from on-camera appearances, after going through a health scare.

Eric had gone for a stent surgery in Taiwan after an enlarged blood vessel was discovered during a routine health check.

However, TVB has since issued a statement denying that Eric and Thomas are resigning.

TVB asserted that the reports were completely unfounded, and reiterated their right to take legal action against these falsehoods.
