Well, she got her wish and more.
Earlier this week, the 48-year-old, who has been in Malaysia for the past two months filming the second season of Hong Kong drama Modern Dynasty, took to Xiaohongshu to share a video of herself frying char kway teow at a roadside stall in Kuala Lumpur.
No, she doesn’t play a hawker in the drama. According to Charmaine, someone had arranged a char kway teow food truck to the set to prepare food for the crew.
The actress got curious and decided to try her hand at whipping up some CKT.
In the video, the actress can be seen tossing the kway teow with one hand, and adding sauce with the other, all while listening intently to the hawker’s instructions.
“Just don’t let the noodles get burnt!” quipped the hawker, while Charmaine replied confidently, “I won’t!”
However, after a few tosses, Charmaine gave up. “I’m so tired. Thank you for your hard work,” she lamented as she beckoned for the hawker to take over.
“Watching the chef cook looks easy, but it’s actually very difficult. The wok is large, and we have to cook a substantial amount. It’s really heavy! I was tired after a few tosses. Combined with the hot weather, I was sweating profusely after a while,” wrote Charmaine.
“Luckily, it turned out to be delicious. Every dish doesn’t come easy. We only know the hard work that goes behind it when we prepare it ourselves, so we should cherish every morsel of food. Thank you chef! The char kway teow with cockles is really delicious!”
Fans left comments saying Charmaine “cooks like a pro” and that they would love to try the noodles she made.
There were also those who were envious at the hawker who got up close with the star.
