Investigate alleged AGC memo leak, says Wan Rosdy

KUANTAN: The authorities need to carry out an investigation on the alleged leak of an internal memo from the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC), says Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

The Umno vice-president said this was very important as it had to do with the six charges against former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and former Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

“One of the main points of the said memo is the prosecution team’s recommendation to then-attorney general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas that the six charges did not meet the minimum requirements to meet a prima facie case for criminal breach of trust (CBT).

“The investigation needs to be done as soon as possible because this memo issue can undermine the credibility and image of the country’s legal and judicial system, as well as have a negative effect on the confidence of various parties from within and outside the country,” said Wan Rosdy in a statement on Sunday (Aug 27).

He added that the matter would also have a direct impact on the trial process faced by Najib in court.

“For the sake of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the legal system remains intact and trustworthy, it is imperative that serious attention be given by the Attorney General to this matter,” said Wan Rosdy.

On Aug 17, Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun told The Star that the AGC was investigating the matter.

In the viral copy of the alleged internal memo, the IPIC (International Petroleum Investment Company) case prosecution team was concerned that a strong prima facie case could not be built for the six charges.

The said case referred to the charges against the former prime minister and Irwan at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Oct 25, 2018. The two were jointly charged with six charges under Section 409 of the Penal Code for CBT amounting to RM6.6bil in government funds involving payments to IPIC.

On Dec 7, 2018, the case was transferred to the High Court.
