Penang CM heading delegation to China trade fair in Xiamen

GEORGE TOWN: Penang will participate in the China International Fair for Investment and Trade as well as the 30th anniversary celebration of the Xiamen-Penang Sister City relationship.

The Penang delegation to Xiamen, China will be headed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and comprise 21 representatives from various sectors.

A statement from Chow’s office said he was invited to join the fair and celebration that will be held from Tuesday to Saturday (Sept 5 to 9).

“Organised by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Penang and the Xiamen Municipal office, this (event) holds immense promise in strengthening the diplomatic, economic and cultural connections between our regions.

“The primary focus of (the Penang) delegation centres on participation in the fair, which provides a pivotal platform for international economic cooperation, fostering trade and investment endeavours.

“This visit (commemorates) the 30th anniversary of the Xiamen-Penang Sister City relationship, signifying the enduring partnership between our two cities,” the statement read.

Throughout the visit, the delegation will engage in high-level dialogue and networking sessions as well as cultural exchanges with their counterparts not just from Xiamen but other participating countries too.

“This presents an opportune moment to showcase Penang’s investment prospects, cultural heritage and unwavering commitment to fostering global partnerships.

“The state looks forward to a fruitful visit that will contribute to Penang’s growth and prosperity while solidifying the bonds between Penang and Xiamen, yielding mutual benefits for both,” the statement added.
