Bukit Aman rescues four women from human traffickers

KUALA LUMPUR: Four female Myanmar nationals, who were exploited to work at a shophouse turned entertainment outlet in Bandar Puchong, were rescued following an operation on Monday (Sept 11).

The raid was conducted by Bukit Aman CID’s Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) unit (D3) at about 10.40am on Monday following information and intelligence gathered several days prior.

Bukit Aman D3 Atipsom principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Fadil Marsus said the women aged between 15 and 31 have been working as guest relation officers (GRO) for foreign customers since five days ago.

“The women were initially promised work as waitresses at a restaurant with RM1,500 salary a month, by one of three male Myanmar nationals, who were detained, who is the main suspect.

“The main suspect forced the four women to work at the entertainment outlet. Besides the main suspect, two of his assistants were also detained,” he said when contacted on Monday.

SAC Fadil said the initial investigation revealed that one of the victims – a 26-year-old woman- also claimed to have been raped by one of the suspects.

“Our investigation led to the rescue of the four victims, who were exploited as forced labour.

“They will be placed at a government shelter,” he said.

The three male Myanmar nationals were detained under Section 12 and Section 14 of the Atipsom Act 2007.
