Muda rep in Johor assembly no longer in Pakatan bloc
JOHOR BARU: Muda’s sole representative in the Johor state assembly, Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, will no longer be within the Pakatan Harapan bloc, says state chief balancing force Andrew Chen Kah Eng.
The Stulang assemblyman, who is also the state DAP secretary, added that this was due to Muda deciding to withdraw its support for the unity government.
“We are disappointed with Muda’s behaviour lately that has been issuing statements which are against the unity government.
“Muda had also put its candidates to go against Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional’s candidates during the Aug 12 six state elections,” he said here on Monday (Sept 11).
Chen added that what was more disheartening was Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman had labelled DAP as a “lapdog”.
“With Muda deciding to withdraw from the unity government and being unfriendly with the unity government, then automatically, its assemblyman will no longer be within Pakatan’s bloc in Johor state assembly,” he said.
Muda made its debut in the Johor state election held in March last year where they contested seven seats and won one seat, which was Puteri Wangsa, through its deputy president Amira Aisya.
On Sunday (Sept 10), Muda dropped a bombshell by deciding to pull out of the unity government but pledged to support Bills which require a two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
Syed Saddiq said the party’s decision was to protest the discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) granted to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the Yayasan Akalbudi case.
In a statement, Muda said it would now be seated in the Opposition bench in the Dewan Rakyat.
Without Muda, the unity government will be one seat short of a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
In a letter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, Syed Saddiq said Muda decided to leave the government bloc.
“I hope this decision will strengthen democracy in the country and bring about more efforts to ensure prosperity for the people,” said Syed Saddiq, who is the Muar MP.
