Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom Trailer: Jason Momoa Joins Patrick Wilson To Stop Global Meltdown, Leaves Amber Heard Behind

The first trailer for Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom has finally arrived.
The sequel, again helmed by James Wan, sees Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry aka Aquaman taking on Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Matee II), the pirate who blames the Protector of the Deep for his father’s death in the first movie.
“I’m gonna kill Aquaman and destroy everything he holds dear,” says Black Manta. “I’m gonna murder his family and burn his kingdom to ash.” To do that, he plans to wield the Black Trident to unleash an ancient and malevolent force.
To defeat Black Manta, Aquaman reaches out to his estranged half-brother and former nemesis Orm (Patrick Wilson).
The movie also stars Nicole Kidman, Temuera Morrison, and Amber Heard, who’s barely seen in the trailer. (Then again, her screentime as Mera is reportedly reduced because of her lack of chemistry with Momoa.)
Warner Bros Discovery sure took its sweet time to unveil footage from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom that starts its global roll-out in December. So much so that Netizens began speculating that the studio has all but abandoned hope.
Can you really blame the suits?
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the third DC movie out this year, following The Flash and Blue Beetle, neither of which went gangbusters, both victims of the so-called comic-book movie fatigue.
On top of that, the production was tarnished by a lot of bad press, notably the “three rounds of reshoots” it underwent as a result of the “uninspired test screenings” and regime changes, especially when DC’s film, TV, and animation projects fall under the purview of DC Studios, with James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-chairs and co-CEOS.
Momoa’s Aquaman, who originated from the Zack Snyder-era DC Extended Universe, also appeared in Justice League, Peacemaker, and The Flash. Alas, he has (so far) no place in the new cinematic landscape envisioned by the new bigwigs.
Addressing the brouhaha over the extra photography in a recent Entertainment Weekly interview, Wan said, “We have big actors in this movie, and everyone’s schedule is really hard.
“So, we had to break up our shooting schedule into sections. We’ll shoot a bit here now, because this actor’s available, and then we’ll do another shoot now, because this guy’s available.
“People are like, ‘Oh, they’re doing a whole bunch of different shoots!’ No. If we actually combined them all together, it’s actually not that many number of days at all.”
