Strong police presence outside KL mall ahead of Save Malaysia rally
KUALA LUMPUR: A strong police presence has been sighted near the Sogo shopping complex and Dang Wangi police headquarters ahead of the “Save Malaysia” rally here on Saturday (Sept 16).
Groups of uniformed police personnel were sighted patrolling the roads on foot near the shopping complex.
Traffic police personnel have also been stationed along the major traffic intersections here.
A barricade has been set up in front of the steps leading into the main entrance of the Sogo mall with a sign advising the public not to sit on the steps, gather or conduct any activities in the vicinity.
The shopping complex remains open while several buskers have been seen playing music nearby.
Yesterday, it was reported that a total of 22 police reports have been lodged against the rally.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the reports were made by various people including business owners, the public and NGOs.
“To save Malaysia, this is not the way. All parties should respect Malaysia Day.
“Our safety is secured. In fact, such protests might cause disruption to public activities,” he added.
The IGP also called on the public not to join the rally.
