Four trafficked Myanmar teens rescued from Port Klang factory

PORT KLANG: Four teenagers, all victims of human trafficking, have been rescued in a raid on an illegal factory in Telok Gong here.

Bukit Aman CID’s Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) unit (D3) conducted the raid at about 3.30pm on Thursday (Sept 21) along with several other agencies, including the Labour Department.

Bukit Aman D3 principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Fadil Marsus said all four victims, three boys and a girl, were 17-year-olds from Myanmar.

“Initial investigations showed that the victims worked at the illegal factory from two to five months ago.

“We also detained 40 other foreigners, including 10 women aged between 21 and 45, who worked at the factory without any valid travel or work documents,” he said when contacted on Friday (Sept 22).

“All the undocumented immigrants have worked at the factory for about a year and five months.

“We also detained two local men aged 21 and 31, the factory’s manager and assistant manager,” he said.

SAC Fadil said the operation was focused on identifying victims of human trafficking based on the National Guideline on Human Trafficking Indicators (NGHTI).

“We will investigate under Section 14 of the Atipsom Act 2007, Child Act 2001, and the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“D3 is always monitoring and gathering intelligence to identify locations of human trafficking and smuggling of migrants into the country,” he added.
