Sabah raises tertiary scholarship fund to RM101mil
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has upped the allocation of scholarships for students pursuing tertiary studies in various fields to RM101mil this year, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
The Chief Minister said this is an increase of 84% over last year’s allocation of RM55mil.
“The State Government Excellence Scholarship award will benefit 4,638 SPM and STPM (holders) and those in higher education institutions,” he said after presenting scholarship awards to 10 outstanding STPM students at Menara Kinabalu here on Friday (Sept 29).
“Education is one of the thrusts in the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan, which is human capital development.
“We need a human capital pool that is skilful and knowledgeable to develop Sabah,” he added.
Hajiji presented the scholarship offer letters to Arnie Jaliusih, Julizza Jummain, Kelly Ng, Mahazir Mahmod, Nur Hafizah Mansor, Nur Syafienaz Herman, Nurul Azwa Azura, Dayangku Siti Aisyah Pg Ali Mudin, Legendra Harroy and Shazliana Sahid.
Accompanying the Chief Minister was state Public Service Department director-general Datuk Zainuddin Aman and the Scholarship Awards Committee.
