Shuttlers lose to China in World Junior Championships mixed team semi-finals

PETALING JAYA: The shuttlers settled for bronze in the World Junior Championships mixed team event after going down 0-3 to China in the semi-finals in Spokane, the United States on Friday (Sept 29).

In the opening match, mixed doubles pair Low Han Chen-Chan Wen Tse lost out 11-21, 16-21 to Liao Pinyi-Zhang Jiahan.

Eogene Ewe tried to level the tie for Malaysia in the men’s singles but went down 17-21, 14-21 to Hu Zhean.

In the women’s singles, Siti Zulaikha Azmi fought hard against Xu Wenjing in her bid to save the tie but her efforts were not enough and she lost 17-21, 18-21.

Despite the defeat, the players can still walk tall after winning Malaysia’s first medal in the mixed team since 2017.

The players will next turn their attention to the individual events which will be held from Oct 2-8.

Meanwhile, China will take on Indonesia in the final on Saturday (Sept 30).
