Bus catches fire in PJ, passengers and driver escape unharmed
PETALING JAYA: A Rapid KL bus caught fire along Jalan Tandang here on Sunday (Oct 1) morning.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received a distress call at 11.17am and dispatched a fire engine with four personnel to the scene.
“We received information that eight people were onboard the bus when one of the passengers saw flames.
“The driver immediately pulled over to the side of the road before the fire engulfed the entire bus,” he said when contacted on Sunday.
He said no one was injured in the incident.
Rapid Bus confirmed that one of its vehicles plying the T640 route (LRT Taman Jaya-Taman Sri Sentosa) caught fire near the Jalan Penchala bus stop.
“The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted and the flames were completely put out by noon.
“There were eight passengers and the bus captain on board when the incident occurred. All escaped unharmed,” the company said in a statement on Sunday.
It added that the passengers used alternative transportation to get to their destinations.
“No public property was damaged during the incident and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
“Rapid Bus will give its full cooperation with the authorities in the investigation into the incident,” it said.
