RM2mil worth of drugs, equipment seized in Penang
GEORGE TOWN: Penang police have seized RM2.06mil worth of drugs and equipment in a series of six raids conducted over a span of four days.
Penang police chief Datuk Khaw Kok Chin also said four local men aged 27 to 33 were arrested in various locations.
Most of the drugs were seized from a double storey house in Bayan Lepas used as a processing lab while the remaining were found stored in vehicle boots.
The drugs comprised 49 slabs of heroin base weighing 18.4kg worth RM1.595mil, 87 packets of heroin weighing 23.38kg worth RM194,000 and two packets of syabu weighing 1.5kg worth RM49,700.
Also seized were six cars and two motorcycles worth RM157,500, four packets of caffeine powder weighing 94kg worth RM32,100, RM1,660 in cash, jewellery worth RM32,435 as well as equipment such as cooking utensils and chemicals.
“The syndicate is believed to have been in operation since early this year from a house to distribute the drugs for the local market.
“Police are in the midst of tracking down the property owner.
“The suspects were all negative for drugs but two of them have past drug and criminal records,” Khaw said during a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters in Penang Road on Monday (Oct 23).
All four suspects have been remanded for seven days until Oct 27.
