Armed robbery suspect shot after dragging cop with his car near Teluk Intan
IPOH: An armed robbery suspect was shot after dragging a policeman with his car near a mosque in Labu Kubong near Teluk Intan.
Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Adnan Basri said the incident occurred at about 11.30am on Monday (Oct 23).
Thankfully, ACP Ahmad Adnan said the policeman did not sustain any injuries.
He said the police had been tailing the two suspects, aged 28 and 31-years old, from Ipoh until Kampung Gajah, after the police had received information regarding the case.
“When they realised that the police were following them, they sped off until reaching Labu Kubong, where the police managed to stop the car.
“While in that process, the driver of the car made a sudden U-turn, and reversed his vehicle until he rammed into the police car at the front.
“The officer then exited the police car and tried to open the rear door of the suspect’s vehicle where one of them was seated.
“The driver then reversed the car dangerously, and dragged the policeman, resulting in the other policeman having to open fire, hitting the front side window of the car,” he said in a statement.
ACP Ahmad Adnan said the suspect continued to reverse the car, until another car blocked the way.
He said the suspect who was seated at the back then tried to escape on foot but was apprehended.
“The driver however managed to manoeuvre his car around the other vehicles and escaped, but was later apprehended by the Kampung Rapat police near Ipoh.
“The suspect was shot in the shoulder and is currently being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
“He had 24 previous criminal records, while the suspect arrested earlier had 11,” he said.
He added that police also found a packet believed to be heroin, and equipment used in the robbery inside the car.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code as well as Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960.
