Chinese-Canadian pop idol and former EXO member Kris Wu, 32, was found guilty of rape last November and sentenced to 13 years in jail.
The disgraced star did not confess to his crimes and is appealing against his sentence.
He has been held at Beijing Chaoyang District Detention Centre since July 2021.
A police officer was recently a guest on Chinese lawyer and author Fa Shan Shu’s (法山叔) talk show, where he talked about what Kris’ daily life behind bars is like.
According to the police officer, the convicts are required to start their day and wash up by 8am. They then head off to work where they operate sewing machines until 11am.
It’s then lunch and an afternoon break before going back to work until 5pm. They have some time to themselves until 7pm when they return to their cells There, they can watch the news until lights out at 10pm.
Thanks to a friend who works at the Beijing Chaoyang District Detention Centre, the police officer also had intel on how Kris is doing.
Kris has been on good behaviour, and he volunteers to participate in arts and cultural activities, which apparently helps him accumulate credits that could put him in a favourable position to reduce his sentence.
One of things he does is to “write uplifting songs” to boost morale.
Fa Shan Shu then wondered: “Is he not pleading guilty?”
The police officer replied: “If he doesn’t plead guilty, there’s no way for him to reduce his sentence. The precursor to reducing one’s sentence is to admit to the crime. But from what I’ve heard, his performance has been good.”
