Azam Baki: I have the PM’s blessing to investigate ministers, civil servants

PUTRAJAYA: The Prime Minister has given the country’s top graft buster, Tan Sri Azam Baki, the full authority to probe allegations of corruption, including those involving ministers and civil servants.

He said that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had repeatedly stressed the importance of integrity and governance in creating a clean and effective government.

“He told me that if there are civil servants, ministers living lavishly, or if my special officers or any special officers are suspected to be involved in corruption or any wrongdoings, go and investigate,” said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner.

“The Prime Minister said there is no need to wait for his instructions or blessing. He has given me the blessing to investigate,” added Azam during the Communications and Digital Ministry’s Integrity Day.

Speaking to reporters later, Azam said Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, who is former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law, has yet to be arrested since being placed on Interpol’s Red Notice list.

“Adlan is still at large, and we are getting assistance from other countries we cooperate with,” he added.

Asked if he knew the whereabouts of Adlan, Azam said, “Let me keep this information to myself.”
