JYP’s Campy Performance At Blue Dragon Film Awards Is A Must Watch Just For The Funny Celeb Audience Reactions

K-pop mogul J.Y. Park (aka JYP) is known to most as the starting force behind acts such as Rain, 2PM, and Got7. But he was actually one of the first K-pop idols. Hence, a bonafide performer in his own right.

However, we are quite sure no one (including us) was ready to see what JYP had in store at the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards last Friday (Nov 24).

Performing a medley of songs that included his hits like ‘When We Disco’ and ‘Changed Man’, JYP started off with Eurythmics’s ‘Sweet Dreams’ in a white coat dress before throwing it off to reveal a purple body suit.

By now, the cameras have panned over to the reactions of the celebs in the audience and we were blessed with the genuinely perplexed face of Descendants of the Sun actor Song Joong Ki as well as Crash Landing On You actress Kim Sunyong, who was caught with her jaw opened multiple times.

Cameras even managed to catch Exo’s D.O. and former f(x) member Krystal Jung looking confused at the spectacle, though both politely clapped as JYP wrapped up his set.

Netizens were quick to poke fun at the campy performance, saying he was “off pitch and off the beat”. They also called him a “hypocrite to demand so much of acts under his management versus what he (JYP) has proved to be capable of”.

Unsurprisingly, there were calls for him to consider retirement soon.

However, some have come out to defend the showbiz legend, praising him for “ditching the pre-recorded track and going for a true live performance.”

Come to think of it, this isn’t the first time JYP has gone viral at an award show, with some netizens wondering if audience reactions were staged.

Back in 2019, the singer took to the MAMA Awards dressed in see-through plastic trousers, and his performance left his former protégé Jackson Wang with his mouth open in shock.
