Johor Sultan receives honorary PhD from UTHM

BATU PAHAT: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has been awarded an honorary PhD in mechanical engineering technology by Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM).

The award is in recognition of the contribution and excellence of His Majesty’s leadership to UTHM, the people of Johor and the country.

Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, who was also UTHM chancellor, presented the honorary PhD during the university’s 23rd convocation ceremony held at Dewan Sultan Ibrahim in UTHM Batu Pahat campus here on Saturday (Dec 2).

Also present at the ceremony was Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah.

In a statement posted on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page, His Majesty was UTHM chancellor between 2002 and 2022 before Tunku Ismail was appointed as the new chancellor on Dec 3 last year.

Meanwhile, Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim was named as UTHM pro-chancellor in the same year.

For almost 20 years as UTHM chancellor, Sultan Ibrahim has put the university’s name on the international stage through financial support and cooperation with educational institutions and international industry.

His Majesty also played an important role in the development of Johor by showing interest in various fields, including mechanical engineering technology.

On UTHM’s 25th anniversary, Sultan Ibrahim made a major contribution to the university by supporting the development of innovative programs including aeronautics including donating the ‘Lake Renegade LA-270’ aircraft for the use of the program.
