TVB Actress Samantha Ko’s Blood Type Is So Rare, It’s Called ‘Panda Blood’

If you have been following the latest hit TVB drama, The Queen of News, you would have taken notice of TVB actress Samantha Ko as Xu Shiqing, whom netizens have dubbed as an “ambitious beauty” who would do anything to achieve her goals.

The 36-year-old actress recently revealed that she had received a call from the Red Cross asking her to donate blood shortly after she returned from a friend’s wedding in Australia.

In a video shared on Instagram on Friday (1 Dec), Samantha can be seen nervously donating blood.

“I started donating blood when I was in middle school, but I still can’t help but get nervous. I’m so nervous that I’m stiff,” she wrote.

Netizens have come out to praise Samantha for her selfless act, with one even commenting how she is “both kind and beautiful at the same time”.

Her latest actions have also piqued the curiosity of netizens, with some wondering why the Red Cross would call the actress directly.

It was then revealed that Samantha has the rare Rh-negative blood type, which is commonly known as “panda blood” due to its scarcity.

How rare? Well, only 0.7 per cent of people residing in Hong Kong have been identified to have this blood type.

According to the Singapore Red Cross, the Rh-negative blood type also accounts for less than one per cent of the population here.

Samantha is not the only celeb with the rare “panda blood”. Popular Korean actress, Park Eun Bin, Twice member, Chaeyoung, and Shinhwa’s Jun Jin have all been revealed to have this blood type.
