Businesswoman, son-in-law duped of nearly RM940,000 in investment scam
JEMPOL: A businesswoman and her son-in-law have almost RM940,000 in an investment scam.
Jempol police chief Supt Hoo Chang Hook said the woman in her 70s was introduced to the scheme in late November, adding that the victims were promised returns of up to 50% within 48 hours.

“However, on Dec 9, the woman’s son-in-law told her that the so-called company they had invested in was facing problems and was being probed in China.
“Realising that they had been duped, the duo lodged a report on Tuesday (Dec 12),” he said, adding that the businesswoman lodged a report at the Bahau station here while her son-in-law did so in Petaling Jaya.
Hoo said the woman claimed she lost almost RM56,000 while her son-in-law was cheated of RM880,000.

He said both victims banked the money into an account after being lured by the unusually high returns but did not receive any news after waiting for 48 hours.
He advised the public to be cautious when investing in schemes which promised unusually high returns within a short period.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
