Wang Leehom Receives Hero’s Welcome For Comeback Concert In China
Guess he’s no longer cancelled.
Guess he’s no longer cancelled.
Looks like Wang Leehom, 47, is no longer cancelled in China.
The Mandopop star was reportedly blacklisted by Chinese authorities after he was accused of multiple infidelities by ex-wife Lee Jinglei in 2021.
After a two-year absence, he finally returned to the stage in the Mainland with a concert in Nanchang last Sunday (Dec 10).
And judging from the warm reception from fans, his popularity hasn’t waned.
Not only did fans throng the airport to welcome Leehom, they also went to great lengths to celebrate his return by renting digital billboard space at malls and subway stations to promote his concert.
Following his show, Leehom announced that he will be holding a free performance in Hangzhou on New Year’s Day, much to the delight of fans.
However, not everyone was thrilled with his return.
Some netizens advocated “boycotting artistes with a bad track record” and said that while Leehom’s songs are good, “that doesn’t excuse his actions”.
Others were more objective, saying that apart from some unverified allegations of solicitation, Leehom has done nothing wrong and that everyone should be more forgiving.
“He isn’t a tainted artist, just be more generous,” read one comment.
