Senior cops on murder charge gives media the slip on the way into courtroom
IPOH: Members of the media were surprised when the senior police officer who was charged with the murder of a 17-year-old student entered the Magistrate Court from another route that bypassed the crowd of waiting journalists and camera crew.
Having waited for hours for the opportunity to capture some footage, many members of the press were left disappointed that the accused, Deputy Supt Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak, had given them the slip as policemen guided him via an alternative route.
The heavy police presence, including those who brought DSP Mohd Nazri to the courtroom, had obstructed the media from getting clear shots of the accused.
Only a Bernama photographer and one Astro Awani videographer were allowed to obtain the visuals, and even then, the accused was allowed to put a piece of black cloth over his head.
Later, only one representative from each media organisation was allowed in the courtroom to cover the proceedings.
Shortly after the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code was read before Magistrate Court judge S. Punitha, the accused was quickly whisked away into a heavily tinted four-wheel drive vehicle that was escorted by four other vehicles.
DSP Mohd Nazri was charged with the murder of Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie at Jalan Taman Jati 1 near SMK Jati, Meru between 12.05pm and 12.40pm on Dec 15.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri declined to comment when contacted.
