PM: Graduate teacher placement issues to be resolved by Education Ministry

TANJUNG MALIM: The issues of teacher placement involving graduates with education degrees will be resolved soon, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

During a “Temu Anwar” (meet Anwar) session here on Thursday (Dec 21), the Prime Minister said approval was granted to the ministry to increase teaching positions by next year.

“Minister Fadhlina Sidek had announced there will be an increase of teachers filling vacancies next year, a significant increase.

“What is more important is that for next year, for the first time, there will be an increase, an addition of teachers in secondary schools in the country,” he said at the dialogue session with undergraduates at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).

Anwar was replying to a student who cited a news report that 4,390 education degree holders who graduated between 2011 and 2020 are still waiting for an interview for their school placements or were forced to work in other fields.
