Netizens Call Out NCT’s Haechan’s Alleged Vaping Habit For Reason Behind Sudden Illness

Popular seven-member Korean boyband NCT 127 will be going on with their next few concerts and appearances without one of their bandmates, at least for the next few weeks.

In a statement by their agency SM Entertainment on Monday (Jan 8), it was revealed band member Haechan will be taking a hiatus after suddenly falling ill while in Japan.

The singer has since returned to South Korea for treatment after developing a cold and high fever.

“The exam results say he has a severe case of tonsillitis, and the doctor advised he needs plenty of rest and stability,” said the agency.

After the announcement, netizens took to releasing behind-the-scenes footage on Thursday (Jan 11) that showed one of the reasons they feel could be behind Haechan’s health woes.

In the somewhat grainy video, the singer was allegedly caught smoking an e-cigarette during a rehearsal for the band’s new single ‘Be There For Me’.

However, since allegations of Haechan’s vaping went public, the video now seems to have been edited to show no trace of the incriminating evidence.

For the uninitiated, studies have shown that the use of e-cigarettes aka vaping has been linked to ailments related to chronic lung diseases that include tonsilitis.

Netizens were not impressed and have come out to criticise Haechan for his smoking habit.

“It’s impossible you didn’t you know you were being filmed?” wrote one user.

Another netizen irately asked, “Would it kill him to go to the rooftop to smoke?” “

However, a few fans have come out to defend Haechan saying the video didn’t show any smoke.

“He could possibly just be having a snack,” said a creative response..

Um… sure.

Others have also pushed the blame on SM Entertainment with one comment reading, “If he is smoking there, that most likely means he got permission from the company to do so.”
