Tze Yong’s injury has given others chance for Asian team event
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian men’s singles strength in the Asia Team Championships is set to be diluted with Ng Tze Yong’s injury.
Yesterday, it was confirmed that Tze Yong had suffered from a muscle tear in his lower back and would be out of next week’s Indian Open in New Delhi.
Tze Yong got injured during the opening round of the ongoing Malaysian Open at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have named another Malaysian Open first round casualty Lee Zii Jia for the team event’s challenge that will be held in Shah Alam from Feb 13-18 but it’s unsure whether Tze Yong will be ready by then.
Without Tze Yong, the space will be open to Leong Jun Hao, Cheam June Wei and several other back-up players.
For now, national coaching director Rexy Mainaky said only professional player Zii Jia’s place in the team meet has been confirmed.
“We have selected Zii Jia for the Asian team meet but we have not made a decision yet on the other players,” said Rexy.
The deadline to submit the names of the players is on Jan 26.
