Many know Hong Kong actor Jazz Lam Tsz Sin, 41, from his appearances in hit dramas including Ghetto Justice (2011), A Fist Within Four Walls (2016), and The Invisibles (2023).
The actor, who made his showbiz debut at 16 in Stephen Chow’s King of Comedy (1999), has appeared in over 35 TVB dramas, and is one of the most recognisable supporting actors of our time.
Despite spending many years honing his craft, Jazz never had any luck when it comes to winning acting awards.
He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the TVB Anniversary Awards four times, in 2011, 2018, 2019, and 2022, but alas, always went home empty-handed.
He finally broke his unlucky streak this past weekend (Jan 14), when he was crowned Best Supporting Actor at the 2023 TVB Anniversary Awards for his performance in The Invisibles.
Upon arriving on stage to receive his award from veteran stars Yuen Wah and Mimi Chu, the actor, who was already sobbing tears of joy, went down on both knees and kowtowed.
He said doing that was to express his gratitude towards his parents before launching into a tearful speech. He thanked the TVB senior execs for their votes, and general manager Eric Tsang for providing him with opportunities to appear in TVB programmes despite him not being contracted to the broadcaster.
At that point, he had long gone over his allotted time on stage and was told to wrap up. A visibly emotional Jazz then asked to not be rushed off because it was his “only time receiving an award”.
He went on to thank his The Invisbles co-stars, including Kenneth Ma and Joel Chan.
Of course, he didn’t forget to thank his wife of seven years, Kary Dong, and he made the audience laugh by thanking his in-laws for “giving birth to Kary”.
Netizens loved Jazz’s speech, with many saying that he is “the deserving winner”.
