Mother of 16-year-old Kemaman rape victim arrested for further investigation
PETALING JAYA: Police in Kemaman have arrested and remanded the mother of a 16-year-old who had claimed she was raped by an 18-year-old labourer earlier this month and that her stepfather was also involved.
Magistrate Sharifah Amirda Shasha Amir Sharifuddin allowed an application by the police to remand the 43-year-old woman for seven days from Sunday (Jan 21), reported Malay language daily Sinar Harian.
Kemaman OCPD Supt Hanyan Ramlan told Sinar Harian that the mother was remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code and Section 14a of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
He said the police arrested the woman at 7pm on Saturday after preliminary investigations into the case.
“Based on the victim’s report, she (claimed she) was raped by the 18-year-old man several weeks ago and that her 32-year-old stepfather was also involved.
“However, during further investigations, the victim also alleged that she had been raped by her stepfather previously,” Supt Hanyan told Sinar Harian on Sunday (Jan 21).
He said police had arrested the 18-year-old and the victim’s stepfather on Saturday morning, adding that both suspects were remanded for seven days.
