Man dies in shoot-out with cops during traffic stop in Changloon
ALOR SETAR: A 57-year-old man was killed in a shoot-out with the police at Napoh, Changloon here on Friday (Feb 16).
Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh in the 5.30pm incident the suspect fired two shot at the police before he was killed in an operation dubbed as Op Laras.
“During the operation, police spotted a car driven by a man exhibiting suspicious behaviour in the area nearby Jalan Bukit Kechik,” he said to reporters.
Fisol said police has instructed the suspect to stop, but he refused to comply.
He said the suspect fired two shots at the police, and in self-defence, the police retaliated with four shots that hit the suspect’s left chest, which resulted the suspect to be killed on the spot.
He said a check found the suspect has four criminal records for drugs and firearms related offences.
Fisol said that a search inside the suspect’s car discovered two pistols and 240 rounds of ammunition.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960.
He said that further investigations would be conducted to determine any potential involvement of the suspect with any syndicate.
The suspect’s body had been sent to Hospital Jitra for a post-mortem examination.
