Chinese Netizens Threaten To Demand Refunds If Ethan Ruan’s Violent Fight Scenes In New Film Are Censored
Won’t a movie rating solve everything?
Won’t a movie rating solve everything?
Taiwanese actor Ethan Ruan‘s performance in gangster thriller The Pig, The Snake and The Pigeon has earned him widespread praise and even a Best Actor nom at last year’s Golden Horse Awards.
However, Chinese audiences might not be able to see his fight scenes in their full glory.
The film about an assassin’s (Ethan) quest to take out two of the underworld’s most wanted criminals in his final days, was slated to be released in China on Mar 1.
According to insiders, some violent action sequences have been censored due to their brutality.
As the movie won the Golden Horse for Best Action Choreography, the news did not sit well with Chinese netizens, with many threatening to demand for refunds should the rumours be true.
Umm… maybe China should have a movie rating system instead?

One netizen commented, “I might as well just watch the movie on Netflix.”
Another highlighted that the version that they are getting has already been watered down and any further changes will make the film “lose its authenticity”.
