Two killed, 13 injured as tour bus overturns on Karak Highway

PETALING JAYA: A foreign man and a local woman died while 13 others were injured after a tour bus overturned on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway on Friday (March 29).

Bentong OCPD Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the police received a distress call on the incident at 8am Friday.

He said that the accident happened while the bus, with 20 passengers, including the driver, was on the way from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur on the way to Kuantan.

The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department, in a Facebook post, said that the tour bus was believed to have been hit before it overturned at KM51.4 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway, near the Lentang Rest Stop.

“The driver and a woman were seriously injured while 11 others were reported injured. Five of the victims escaped unhurt,” Supt Zaiham said in a statement Friday.

Supt Zaiham said the deceased victims and those injured had been taken to Bentong Hospital for further action.

Meanwhile, he also refuted allegations that victims were stuck under the bus that had gonve viral on social media.

The accident caused traffic congestion for several kilometres from the accident site. – Bernama
