Chinese Woman Has No Regrets Leaving Civil Service To Be Pig Farmer, Says There’s Less Stress When “Colleagues Are Not Human”
Would you take a substantial pay cut in exchange for a relatively stress-free work environment? Well, one lady from Yunnan, China did, and she has absolutely no regrets.
The 26-year-old, who goes by the online moniker Song Song, graduated with a major in Chinese Language and Literature, and used to hold a well-paying job in the government sector.
However, she felt that the job wasn’t for her, and at a friend’s suggestion, she switched careers to work on a farm as a pig breeder.
She reportedly earns around 5,000 yuan (S$950) a month. She did not mention her previous salary.
Song Song has been working as a pig farmer for two years, and while she admits that the job is physically taxing and the environment less than desirable, she feels more relaxed and carefree.
The reason? She doesn’t have to deal with “complicated interpersonal relationships”.
“Before starting this job, I had the impression that [pig farming] was dirty. However, after giving it a go, I realised that it’s a very normal job. Only a person can make themselves appear unseemly,” she said.
Song Song continued: “I draw a 5,000 yuan (S$950) salary, but don’t have so much anxiety. I get the rest I deserve on my off days, and it’s great. Your stress is halved when your colleagues are not human. The pigs won’t call you in the middle of the night to tell you to edit a proposal.”
She works eight hours each day, and while the job might require her to get her hands dirty, she considers herself lucky that she doesn’t have to deal with office politics and conflicts.
Dubbed the “good-looking pig nanny” on social media, Song Song often goes viral for her job-related content.
“From not understanding this job to loving it, I realised one thing: Young people should simply choose to do something they enjoy,” she said.
