Klang hit by flash floods, including famous ‘Little India’
KLANG: Several parts of Klang have been hit by flash floods due to heavy rain.
One of the worst hit places were parts of Jalan Tengku Kelana, where the royal town’s Little India is located.
N. Thuraisingam – who works in a restaurant there – said the lower end of Jalan Tengku Kelana near Bulatan Simpang Lima was hit by floods.
“Luckily, so far the upper part of Jalan Tengku Kelana has good water flow and no flooding,” he added.
However, Thuraisingam added that the entire stretch of Jalan Tengku Kelana could become flooded if the heavy rain persisted.
The water in the submerged area quickly subsided once the rain became lighter.
The Auditor-General’s Report 2022 recently stated that only 50% of the flood mitigation projects in Klang were a success.
It added that Jalan Tengku Kelana was one of the areas where the flood mitigation project was a success as there was no flooding after work had been carried out.
Klang district officer Shahman Jalaludin had said in a previous interview that various measures had been taken to mitigate floods here since 2022.
He added that the flood-prone areas in Klang were also closely monitored by the flood mitigation task force to ensure maintenance was done.
“We have learnt from past experiences such as the massive flooding in 2021 and implemented the necessary,” Shahman had said.
