Cantopop star Miriam Yeung has found herself caught up in controversy after she was accused of being a diva and chasing away customers at an Auckland restaurant.
The 50-year-old, who is currently on her My Tree Of Live world tour, held her Auckland concert on March 30, the same night as Chinese singer Joker Xue’s gig.
According to reports, Miriam and her crew had planned to have their celebratory dinner at a local restaurant after her show.
They had booked the entire place for their party at 11pm, however, at 10pm, the restaurant was still opened to the public.
As a result, customers were asked to leave during their meal, including Joker’s fans, who happened to be dining there.
A fan later took to the internet to air their grievances, accusing Miriam of acting like a “big shot and chasing other people away”.
This angered Miriam’s fans who criticised the original poster for “refusing to leave even after their bill was waived”, and this soon escalated into an online war of words between the two camps.
Many netizens also stepped in to ease the feud, saying the restaurant is the one at fault and that Joker’s “fans should blame the right person”.
Before the controversy could die down, another emerged, this time over the sudden change of venue for Miriam’s Sydney concert.
Fans are demanding refunds after the venue for her Apr 3 show was moved from the 9,000-seat Aware Super Theatre at The International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) to the much smaller Darling Harbour Theatre, which houses 2,500 people. The new location is within the same complex.
Concertgoers were informed a month prior that the concert had been relocated and those who had purchased tickets would be reassigned seats according to their prices.
The move was to provide fans “a more intimate experience”, however, some are not buying it.
And what got fans really furious was the “unreasonable” reassignment of seats.
“I rushed to purchase tickets when they went on sale and paid A$298 (S$262) for seats in the middle. But after the venue was changed, I was assigned a seat at the side, which was no different from the A$98 (S$86) [seats],” lamented one fan.
Another said: “I was moved from the middle to the last row of the balcony. This is ridiculous!”
