QuickCheck: Was a worker killed while inflating a tyre in Selangor?
REGULAR tyre maintenance is important to ensure a safe and comfortable driving experience.
Whether one is heading to the nearest workshop or petrol station to get underinflated tyres back to normal pressure, such a task seems harmless enough.
Recently, however, a photo of two men lying unconscious at a tyre shop went viral on social media.
It was claimed that a freak accident left one worker dead and another in critical condition. Is this true?
Verdict:
TRUE
Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the incident occurred at 12.40pm on Thursday (May 2).
“The incident occurred at a tyre shop in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh.
“Pictures of the two men lying on the ground covered in blood also began to spread on social media.
“The two men, who worked at the shop, were trying to inflate a tractor tyre when it exploded,” he said in a statement on Friday (May 3).
“One of the workers, a 19-year-old, died at the scene while his 21-year-old colleague suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Hospital Sungai Buloh,” he said, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death.
He urged the public to refrain from circulating the images or speculating on the incident.
