The singer had initially postponed two shows last weekend till May 27 and 28, but rescheduled them again as his vocal cords have not recovered.
In what seems like the latest in a string of eventful incidents, Hong Kong singer Eason Chan is now being forced to reschedule the last two of his six Fear And Dreams World Tour shows in Hangzhou.
His concert last Friday (May 24) was the 100th of the tour which began in December 2022.
At around 7pm on Saturday (May 25), Eason, 49, went on stage to inform the audience that he was unable to perform due to issues with his vocal cords.
Bowing and apologising to the disappointed but empathetic crowd, he shared that his vocal cords had become swollen during rehearsal and the condition worsened an hour before the show.
Choking back tears, Eason expressed that he had never cancelled a show at the last minute before, but had no choice as he was advised by doctors to rest his vocal cords.
After the video of the apology was posted on social media, netizens left messages of support for Eason and urged him to take a break.
“I was rehearsing as usual with the band and dancers at 4pm when I discovered that I had some physical problems after the rehearsal,” Eason wrote on Weibo.
“It became more serious, and I realised at 6pm that I could not perform today due to my health issues,” he added.
The ‘Chin Up’ singer initially shared that he would reschedule the May 25 and 26 shows to May 27 and 28 respectively.
But on May 26, Eason posted an update on Weibo writing that the two shows would have to be rescheduled again and new dates would be announced later through the organisers.
Fans also have the option of getting a refund for their tickets, as well as compensation for travel and accommodation expenses.
“After getting up today, I thought I could meet you. Unfortunately, my vocal cords have not improved even after getting emergency treatment from doctors,” he wrote.
“I cannot guarantee the quality of subsequent performances, so they suggested that I continue to rest. I’m really sorry to disappoint everyone again,” Eason added.
Finishing 100 shows is no mean feat and hopefully he gets well soon.
