Lee Zii Jia finishes as runner-up in Malaysian Masters

KUALA LUMPUR: Independent men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia has finished as the runner-up in the Malaysian Masters on Sunday (May 26).

World No. 10 Zii Jia went down fighting to Denmark’s world No. 1 Viktor Axelsen, 6-21, 22-20, 13-21, in the final in 63 minutes at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

Despite the defeat, the 26-year-old can hold his head high after reaching his second consecutive final following his triumph in the Thailand Open last week.

Zii Jia was the first Malaysian in the men’s singles to make it to the final since Datuk Lee Chong Wei.

Meanwhile, it was joy for Axelsen, who ended his wait for an individual title this year.
