Copter tragedy: Royal Malaysian Navy shares video of final seven seconds before crash
KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) shared a video showing the final seven seconds before the Eurocopter AS555SN Fennecand Agusta-Westland AW-139 crashed at the Lumut Naval base on April 23.
Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Ayob said the video showed the moment prior to the air collision that led to the crash.
“On that day, we had seven helicopters involved in the flypast rehearsal. Based on the video, we can see the difference between the left and right sides of the formation,” he said.
Shared with the media at the unveiling of the Investigation Board’s full report on Thursday (May 30), the video was filmed by a naval cameraman.

The video showed seven helicopters involved in an aerial formation during rehearsals for the 90th Naval Day.
On April 23, 10 personnel were killed when two naval helicopters crashed in Lumut while conducting a third rehearsal for a flypast in conjunction with the 90th Naval Day.
The Fennec helicopter crashed into the swimming pool in the sports complex, while the AW139 crashed at the TLDM stadium in Lumut.

Preliminary investigations found that the naval helicopters were airworthy during the incident.
The Navy had said the preliminary report showed that all crewmen were in good health to handle the aircraft and were capable of doing so based on their qualifications.
