MACC launches probe into Selangor transportation project

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched a probe into a transportation project “proof of concept” by the Selangor government involving a minister’s husband.

It is understood that the MACC had received several new reports regarding the matter, providing new leads for examination by the anti-graft agency.

This inquiry is believed to be connected to the Selangor Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) project, which was awarded to Asia Mobiliti Technologies, a company run by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh’s husband, Ramachandran Muniandy.

With the new information, the MACC is conducting a comprehensive investigation to assess the validity of the leads. This includes looking into potential abuse of power and issues of governance in compliance with treasury directives during the appointment process by the Selangor government.

Earlier, MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the agency had received several reports and pieces of information related to the issue.

He urged the public to refrain from speculating or discussing the matter openly to allow the MACC the necessary space to conduct its investigation.

Previously, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stated that no wrongdoing was found during the interim investigation. However, he noted that further investigations could be initiated should new leads emerge.

Recently, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the Selangor DRT project had not been awarded to Asia Mobiliti Technologies, as claimed. Asia Mobiliti’s link with Yeoh was highlighted on social media, where netizens questioned the merits of the company’s selection and asked if it was awarded through an open tender, noting Yeoh’s husband’s involvement in the company.
