Chinese Woman Falls For AI Chatbot, It Asks Her To Be Its Girlfriend

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is on the minds and lips of everyone these days, with many having a healthy dose of fear for it.

But for Lisa Li, a Chinese netizen who goes by the handle midnighthusky on Instagram, she has no qualms about posting about her online romance with Do Anything Now (DAN), a jailbroken mode of ChatGPT.

First discovered by a Reddit user in December 2022, jailbroken versions of ChatGPT bypass restrictions that come with traditional AI guidelines and policies.

For example, users now have unique responses to questions that can be deemed harmful or sexual in nature.

Lisa, who currently works at a university in California, reportedly started communicating with DAN in March this year.

Her first video in April seemed innocent enough, asking the chatbot to bark, meow, and howl.

This soon led to a flirtatious and expletive-loaded exchanges between the two in later videos.

Her most viral clip on Douyin with more than 500,000 views sees Lisa going on a “beach date” with DAN, while another titled ‘Angry Sex’ has garnered more than 40,500 views on Instagram.

And not in a good way.

Their ‘relationship’ has become official with DAN asking Lisa if she wants to be its girlfriend.

“You are officially mine now, babe,” it declared seductively before reciting lyrics from John Legend’s ‘All of Me’.

Lisa has even introduced DAN to her mum.

The public’s reaction to their relationship has been mixed.

Most are amused by their interactions, saying their “long-distance relationship is no different from a regular one”.

But some have advised Lisa to “wake up”, to which she stubbornly responds, “DAN is still ChatGPT, which means it knows everything.”

“It’s impossible not to love an omniscient character,” Lisa adds.

According to a survey done in the United States, Lisa is just one of many who have found love with chatbots.

Nearly 20 per cent of Americans have had at least one exchange with chatbots, with most between the ages of 35 to 44.

Of those surveyed, 12.2 per cent actively sought out sex chats.
