Kota Marudu Hospital staff prevents fire from spreading

KOTA KINABALU: Quick action by staff of the Kota Marudu Hospital along Jalan Lotong prevented fire from spreading in its operating room Monday morning.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department Senior Assistant Fire Comm Mohd Ishak Amran said that a team of nine men were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.02am.

The team arrived at the scene, some seven kilometres from the fire station, eight minutes later.

“When the team arrived, the fire had already been extinguished by hospital staff using dry powder fire extinguishers.

“Only about 5% of the Voltage Transformer at the operating room was affected, and there was no structural damage to the building,” he said.

Mohd Ishak added that the fire did not cause any power blackout.

“Firemen conducted a further inspection, and the situation was brought under control at 10.26pm.

“The operation concluded a minute later after ensuring no other hazards at the scene,” he said.

No casualties were reported.
