Two killed in shootout with cops at NSE’s Tanjung Malim rest stop

PETALING JAYA: Two men were killed following a shootout with the police at the Tanjung Malim rest stop along the North-South Expressway (NSE).

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said a team consisting of personnel from Bukit Aman and Perak CID were trailing a car at about 11.32pm on Saturday (June 1).

“Realising they were being followed, the suspects sped up and entered the NSE.

“The police gave chase and managed to corner the suspect at the Tanjung Malim rest stop.

“The suspects fired several shots at the police forcing police personnel to fire back,” he said in a statement on Sunday (June 2).

Two male suspects were found in a pool of blood in the car and died at the scene following the shootout, he said.

“One of the suspects had a criminal record with 23 prior offences, including six cases where he was wanted by the police.

“We are investigating under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960,” he said.

Comm Hussein urged those with information on the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters at 03-6064 1223.
