George Town police seized more than RM400,000 in drugs during Ops Tapis

GEORGE TOWN: More than RM400,000 in drugs were seized during police narcotics operations in Ayer Itam on June 7, with a 24-year-old suspected dealer nabbed.

The arrest was made at about 7pm by the George Town police narcotic criminal investigation department during the police’s Ops Tapis sweep.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Razlam Ab Hamid said the suspect was arrested for suspected drug dealing at a roadside by police patroling during the operation.

“Police found a plastic packet containing ketamine weighing about 1.22g on the suspect,” ACP Razlam said during a press conference at state police headquarters.

ACP Razlam said following an interrogation of the suspect, police conducted a raid at a house in Paya Terubong where they found 121 pink packets of drugs believed to be MDMA totaling about 2,383g worth RM 397,960.

“We also found a transparent packet containing ketamine weighing 10.94g worth RM2188,” he said, adding police also found an aluminium foil containing two Erimin 5 pills worth RM40.

He said the total value of the drugs seized during the arrest was RM400,428.

Police also confiscated a car worth RM75,000.

He said a further investigation found drug trafficking activities allegedly committed by the suspect since April this year and police believed the drugs were bound for the local market.

He said the suspect has been remanded for seven days until June 14 to assist in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
