BATU PAHAT: Four people, including three Vietnamese women, were killed when their vehicle crashed into a trailer lorry at KM123.8 of the North-South Expressway (NSE), the Pagoh-Yong Peng stretch.

Batu Pahat acting OCPD Supt Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the accident occurred at 9.15pm on Tuesday (June 11) after the lorry broke down in the middle of the road.

“The lorry was driven by a 47-year-old man. A car coming from behind crashed into the back of the trailer while he was trying to move his vehicle out of the way.

“The car was driven by a 26-year-old local man with three Vietnamese women passengers aged between 19 and 32.

“The crash caused the driver and two passengers to sustain serious head injuries. They were pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 12).

Supt Shahrulanuar added that one of the women died while being treated at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail, while the lorry driver was unharmed.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he added.
