Puchong drug raid leads cops to modified car with high-tech hidden compartment

SERDANG: A police narcotics raid led to the discovery of a modified car that used a locked compartment to store drugs.

The raid on June 17 in a rented house in Puchong was conducted by both the Bukit Aman and Kelantan Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).

Bukit Aman NCID director Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said that during the raid, police discovered the car that was believed to be used to transport the drugs discreetly.

“A keycard is needed to open the compartment and it can only be opened when the car has been started,” he said, adding that the compartment was further obscured by “speakers” in the trunk.

“During the operation, a 36-year-old man was nabbed on suspicion of being involved in drug trafficking.

“The house was used as a storehouse and the police discovered around RM13.5mil worth of illicit drugs,” Comm Khaw told a press conference at the Serdang police headquarters Wednesday (June 19).

He said about 73.15kg of ketamine and 308.69kg of syabu were seized.

“It is estimated that the drugs could have been used by up to 1.8 million addicts,” he said.

Comm Khaw also said that other syndicate members were believed to still be free and that police are currently tracing them down.

“We are also urging the house owner to come forward to assist investigations,” he said.

The suspect has been remanded until June 24 to assist investigations.
